abstract

animal experimentation is carried out in consultation with the veterinary wing but it is essential that be familiar with experimental protocols of animal model to be able to design an approriate study. this is more so in place where the veterinary facilities are not easily available.span rabbits are commonly used as subjects for screening implant material. they have gained favour for their numerous advantages even though they should be ideally used prior to testing in a larger animal model. though experimentation on rabbits seems to be easy there are many pitfalls. our endeavor in this article is to integrate all the data about maintaining rabbits as a model and to critically analyze it on the basis of our experimentation. key words: animal model, experimental model, rabbit model

The rabbit as an animal model for experimental surgery.

The white New Zealand rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) is frequently used as a model for in vivo studies. However, information on precautions when using this animal as an experimental model is limited. This review of the literature covers the gamut from the selection of the animal model all the way to its death, and describes procedures for transporting, raising, breeding, housing, administering ...

MAKING AN EXPERIMENTAL ANIMAL MODEL FOR MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS

To understand the mechanism of Multiple Sclerosis (MS), an autoimmune demyelinating disease, the researchers developed an experimental animal model for MS, which is called EAE (Experimental Allergic Encephalomyelitis). There are several methods for inducing this animal model. In this research the active EAE, which is developed by injecting bovine myelin antigens into genetically susceptibl...

Tupaia Belangeri as an Experimental Animal Model for Viral Infection

Tupaias, or tree shrews, are small mammals that are similar in appearance to squirrels. The morphological and behavioral characteristics of the group have been extensively characterized, and despite previously being classified as primates, recent studies have placed the group in its own family, the Tupaiidae. Genomic analysis has revealed that the genus Tupaia is closer to humans than it is to ...

The ferret as an animal model in cerebrovascular research.

Clinical and pathologic observations have suggested analogies between the developing nervous system of ferrets (Mustela putorius furo) and those of more traditional animal models employed in stroke research. Experimental work has demonstrated advantages of the ferret as a model of visual development. We performed in vivo cerebral angiography and postmortem neurovascular dissection of latex-inje...
